Computers are beneficial for most people, including teenagers. Based on a survey by The World Academy of Research in Science and Engineering, the majority of parents see computers as beneficent in writing, creativity, grammar and a student's ability to revise and edit easily. While some researchers note the advantages of technology -- editing and revising text readily -- others see writing, reading and spelling as being at risk as teenagers use more shortcuts in emails and texting. These skills that were once the hallmark of good grammar are being supplanted by shortcuts and emoticons. The alternative language form associated with modern technology can become problematic as students prepare formal writing assignments and may ultimately hinder them when teachers insist on proper English language.
