Conclusions
The control of environmental pH at neutral range was proven to have the ability to prevent milk coagulation and reduce long-term biofilm formation in milk. In dairy farms where bacteria have many chances to develop on milk residues, pH will decrease and biofilms will form, as observed in this study. To avoid this, pH control using alkalis is highly advisable. Powdered lime, a very inexpensive alkali and usually used for scattering around livestock yards and lots, has many positive effects such as avoiding the decrease of environmental pH and reducing bacterial biofilms. In addition, in-time washing and frequent cleaning are also recommended.
