The persons with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) must adhere to numerous medical treatments, behavioral and life-style modifications that are complex and difficult because of multiple system involvement. This article aims to present the concept and application of the Motivational Interviewing (MI) which could be applied to individuals with CKD to activate their intrinsic motivation, commitment, and decision to act for change by reviewing the literature and the author's experience, including the results of a research article of applying this concept in the chronic disease and chronic kidney disease. It is beneficial for Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) as CKD Clinical Nurse Specialists whose important role is to educate, promote, and support individuals with CKD to achieve healthier behavior and better clinical outcomes.
