The military has released a red-shirt supporter who allegedly posted a Facebook message warning people of a massive bomb in Surat Thani 10 hours ahead of the car bomb explosion at Central Festival Samui mall on April 10.
National Council for Peace and Order spokesman Col Winthai Suwaree said Narin Umnongbua, alias "M Suadaeng", was released without any charges after being detained for questioning by the military for seven days under an order of the NCPO chairman issued under Section 44 of the interim constitution.
The release of Mr Narin came after several people including Pheu Thai member and red-shirt leader Worachai Hema questioned his detention. The former MP called on authorities to thoroughly investigate the attack, rather than relying on a Facebook post.
Mr Worachai said the red-shirt supporter might have posted the FB message because he just wanted publicity.
A source said the military would continue to keep Mr Narin under watch although there was no evidence to link him to the car bomb on Koh Samui, off the coast of Surat Thani.
