Inhibition of protein synthesis, which is the basis of cell enzymes and structures, consequently
leading to the death of the organism or the inhibition of its growth and multiplication;
Inhibition of nucleic acid synthesis (DNA and RNA) due to the binding of some antimicrobial
agents to components involved in the process of DNA or RNA synthesis. This inhibition interferes
with normal cellular processes, compromising microbes’ multiplication and survival;
Inhibition of other metabolic processes, for instance the disruption of the folic acid pathway,
which is essential for bacteria to produce precursors important for DNA synthesis.
