Mejia said the ordinance has two purposes.
It’s supposed to help keep the peace. And it will help prevent traffic problems caused by motorists who can’t hear emergency vehicles coming because their music drowns out the sirens, he said.
”Part of the issue of the ordinance is public safety,” Mejia said. ”You should be able to hear (the emergency vehicle) before you see it.”
Mejia said he did not know of any major accidents caused by drivers playing loud music who could not hear an emergency siren.
