Cultural Phenomenon
The fact that anthropologically there are many Koreans from northern areas explains why the majority of Koreans are right-brained. The right side of the brain controls the emotions. Scholars note that Koreans often use their right brain in their daily life, which is the result of having many northern ancestors. The right brain has superior space perception and controls the development and use of adjectives in language. On the other hand, Koreans are known as poor users of left brain ability, which controls abstract concepts. This is supported by observations that there are many Koreans who have fast brain function and high intuition, but relatively few who can use abstract abilities for conceptual thinking
In 1981 R. Sperry, the recipient of the Nobel Prize in medical science and physiology, presented his work on the separate left and right brain functions. The left brain deals with language, math, and logic, etc., while the right brain deals with emotion and the processing of direct sensory information, such as that obtained through the physical senses of vision and hearing. Of course the right and left brains do not operate completely separately from each other; they exchange information, and the level of exchange differs depending on the individual
