This task involves assigning the sales and production volumes to certain markets and dealers to offer a mix of cars in sales regions across the globe. As the automotive distribution system is typically limited to licensed retailers and dealers in Japan and Germany, an allocation of cars is required to balance sales goals (e.g. strategic market presence, profit optimization, maximization of sold units). Sales goals are still a quite important management tool to control the order fulfilment process (Quante et al., 2009). This function can also be driven by the monthly production output in a more manufacturing oriented order fulfilment environment by assigning the production volumes to dealers (Iyer et al., 2009).
