To this end, model evaluation studies should also include, in addition to model testing against standard sets of experimental data, sensitivity simulations with a range of climate scenarios, management, and CO2 concentrations. Thirdly, current field experiments on crop responses to CO2 should also address the effects of factors that are known to determine farm-level yield variability. Such experiments will provide better understanding of effects of soil quality, competition with weeds and pests and diseases on crop responses to CO2 and will improve our ability to assess CO2 impacts at larger scales.
