We hypothesized that, as compared to young women who did not grow up with an alcoholmisusing parent, female ACOAs would report greater parentification and more responsibility (instrumental caregiving, emotional caregiving, past unfairness) in one's family of origin. In addition, we hypothesized female ACOAs who resided in a home with an alcohol-misusing mother or two alcohol-misusing parents would report greater parentification and more family responsibilities (instrumental caregiving, emotional caregiving, past unfairness) in their families of origin as compared to young women who resided with a father they suspected of problem drinking or parents that they did not suspect had an alcohol problem.
