This model may be linked to the knowledgebased
theory of the firm, which suggests that
organisations facilitate the management of knowledge
during its whole life-cycle (Alavi and Leidner,
1999) from creation and identification (construction)
to application (use/benefit) getting through storage,
capitalisation and consolidation (embodiment) and
sharing and distribution (dissemination) (Tiwana,
2000; Wiig, 1997). During the life cycle of knowledge,
competences can be developed and/or
enhanced by implementing one or more of these
processes.
