Ethical considerations
The Danish Data Protection Agency and the Central Denmark Region Committee on Biomedical Research Ethics were notified about the study in accordance with Danish legislation. They both approved the study. Before inviting the participant, her son was asked for permission, as he was a participant in the qualitative study of rehabilitation after spinal cord injury. The participant had been informed orally and in writing before consent was obtained. Following ethical standards, confidentiality and anonymity were central issues in this study. Thus, I deleted information that could be traced to the participant and presented the article to her to ensure that she had no objections to publishing her story in this way.
