Perform hand hygiene before patient contact.
Verify the correct patient using two identifiers.
Assess patient’s skin condition and observe ROM during bathing.
Check practitioner’s therapeutic bath order for type of solution, length of bath time, body part to bathe, and any precautions.
Explain the procedure, and ask patient’s preferences.
Gather supplies and arrange on table close to bed.
Offer patient the opportunity to void in a bedpan or urinal.
Adjust room temperature and ventilation, close doors and windows, and draw room divider curtain.
If it is necessary to leave the room, ensure that the call light is within patient’s reach, bed is in low position, and wheels are locked.
Raise bed to a comfortable working height. Lower closest side rail, and bring patient toward closest side. Assist patient into a comfortable supine position, maintaining proper body alignment.
