2.4.1 Anxiety
Anxiety can be defined as an abnormal and overwhelming sense of apprehension or fear often marked by physiological signs. Language anxiety is seen as a stable personality trait referring to the propensity for an individual to react in a nervous manner when speaking in the second language. Hamilton and Parker (1997) indicated that communicator anxiety can be an obstacle to effective communication. Comparatively, people who have high anxiety are at a disadvantage compared to talkative or outgoing people. Those who have high anxiety are perceived to have less potential and are less likely to make a good impression in communication, especially in speaking.
