Eighty-six patients (56 men, mean age 62.2±1.2 years, range 40–86) were included and separated into two groups according to NTproBNP levels (group A, NTproBNP levels above cut-off; group B, NTproBNP below cut-off; N=43 each).
The characteristics of the whole study population and of the groups stratified according to NTproBNP levels are summarised in table 1. There were no differences between the two groups in basic characteristics but they differed significantly in LA diameter with patients in group B having a significantly larger LA than those in group A (p=0.006).
