This huge 130 meter high golden Buddha image is set on a mountain. The mountain itself was carved during the Vietnam War. The big blocks of stone were used to build U-Tapao airport, which was at the time an American army base. After the war, the Buddha image was carved out of the cliff using laser technology. After that, it was inlaid with gold leaf, a process that took months to complete. The Buddha Mountain is set in beautifully landscaped gardens.
