The CO2 evolution test has been used in the ecotoxicological
assessment of drilling fluids [34] and oilfield wastewater [35]. One
of the few example where it was used for assessing the toxicity
in wastewater treatment processes was by Prado et al. [36], who
used the CO2 evolution test to evaluate the toxicity of veterinary
antibiotics tetracycline and tylosine to activated sludge. The tests
were performed in 1-L batch reactors and sodium benzoate was
also used as the reference compound
