Nagano explains his considerations before photographing a moment: “One is the visual aspect…understandability and simplicity. The other one is to make everyone smile…The reasons for this are because I believe smiling is universal and transcends all generations. Smiling also has an instantaneous power to cherish the atmosphere. Even more, smiling has a power to make people happy. Smiling therefore, is the easiest way to communicate and I believe it is the same for communication amongst families. “If I make them smile, everything is okay” — this is my philosophy as a father…I want not only for my family, but also those foreigners who follow my photographic journey on the website to smile and then we can all experience a sense of community and build spontaneous connections together.”
"Whether it is a fight between a couple, countries, and people, it is quite possible that everything can be solved with a simple kiss," Toyokazu told My Modern Met. "With this in mind, my second daughter is expressing this idea by kissing different people and things. This project is to show that love can be spread and shared among people. We hope that it would bring peace to the world."
