generation of lipid peroxidation under normal cell condition (Fig. 3a).

H2O2 significantly attenuated lipid peroxidation formation as compared with H2O2-treated cells (Fig. 3b).
The result at cellular level was in agreement with the anti-lipid peroxidation in cell-free system (Fig. 1d).
Both O2●- and H2O2 are generated as the consequence of cellular metabolic process32, leading to the production of OH● via the Fenton reaction,
which frequently attack biological molecules including lipids, resulting in initiation of lipid
peroxidation2.
The result indicated that TSCE-W was a potent antioxidant by scavenging against O2●-, H2O2 (Fig. 1b, 1c), and anti-lipid peroxidation (Fig. 1d) in cell-free system including cellular model (Fig. 3b).
Methanolic extract of tamarind seed coat could prevent oxidation of human low-density lipoprotein (LDL)33, which is an important initial event in the progression of atherosclerosis34 via anti-lipid peroxidation13.
Therefore, the anti-lipid peroxidation of TSCE-W in H2O2-induced oxidative stress in cells might inhibit the oxidation of LDL, leading to prevent atherosclerosis.
