Individuals are typical
elements of tropical rock hilltops, and bear resistance
properties such as quiescence, drought enduring leafs
(sclerophylly), and adventitious roots with multilayeredvelamen which allow them to quickly absorb
any available water from rain or mist, and are also
adapted to fire. The family has many representatives
in the ‘campo rupestre’ vegetation (high-altitude rocky
grasslands) of Brazil (Jacobi & Del Sarto, 2007)
