38 Volunteers with impaired fasting glucose (100 – 125 mg/dl) were randomized into two groups; the experiment group received Syzygium cumini (L) Skeels seed extract 3 g/d (1.5 g bid), and the placebo group received methylcellulose 3 g/d (1.5 g bid). Fasting blood glucose levels were tested at week 0, 4, 8, and 12 while the HbA1c were tested at week 0 and 12. There was one subject from the placebo group who dropped off from the study
Statistical analysis
The means of fasting blood glucose levels at basal, 4th week, 8th week, and 12th week in each groups are compared by using Two way ANOVA Repeated Measurement. The mean of HbA1c levels at basal and 12th week in each group are by using Paired T-test. The means of change in Fasting blood glucose & HbA1c levels between control and treatment groups are compared by using T-test. (95% level of confidence, P value=0.05
