.In Calanoides acutus,
the total DFA recovered as a percentage of total lipid
was 0.65+0.92% across all the groups. Calanoides acutus
showed the same trends as C. finmarchicus with decreasing
D5-18:3n-3 and increasing D5-20:3n-3 with time
(Table II), again most of the tracer residing in the original
substrate. However, D5-18:4n-3, D5-20:5n-3 and
D5-22:6n-3 could not be detected in this copepod. Total
DFA comprised a much higher proportion of total lipid
than for the other species (10.8+3.0%). In the three
groups of D. forcipatus analysed, over 99% of recovered
DFA remained as D5-18:3n-3 with only ca.0.5%
elongated to D5-20:3n-3 and just trace amounts of
desaturation products (Table III). The pattern of DFA
recovered from the krill larvae was very similar to thatin D. forcipatus with over 99% of recovered DFA as
D5-18:3n-3, small amounts of D5-20:3n-3 and trace
amounts of D5-18:4n-3, D5-20:5n-3 and D5-22:6n-3.
DFA comprised 5.4+1.3% of total lipid
