The Secret Agent (Joseph Conrad)
Verloc’s shop in his house in Soho, It is a small shop in a grimy area of London which sells pornographic pictures and curiosities. Mr.Verloc lives with his wife Winnie, his mother-in-law, and his brother-in-law, Stevie. At the embassy, Verloc meet his new boss a guy named Mr. Vladimir who hatches a plan that'll force the police to start locking up political agitators without due process. He wants him to provoke and bomb the Greenwich Observatory. After the meeting, Verloc struggles with the question of whether the bombing is right or wrong and the nature of his own lack of any real political belief and position as a secret agent. A month later, two members of the anarchist group, Verloc's friends, who are members of the F.P. (the Future of the Proletariat) and professor meet. They are discussing about politics, law, talking about a communist revolution and confabulating about the recent event bombing of the Greenwich Observatory in which a man was killed. Afterward the Professor confronts Chief Inspector Heat, a police officer researching the Greenwich blowup. Though Heat does not suspect that The Professor was involved directly in the bombing because He is being watched his anarchist political background. After that Michaelis is an anarchist friend of Mr Verloc, and his patroness is a good friend of the Assistant Commissioner's wife. The Assistant Commissioner is very concerned that Michaelis might be linked to the bomb explosion, which is exactly what the Chief Inspector thinks. They have also found a rag of blue cloth among the effects of the dead man. The rag used to be an overcoat, and had the address of Mr Verloc's shop written under the label. Chief Inspector Heat is determined to prove that Michaelis, who now lives abroad, is involved. The Assistant Commissioner disagrees and gets involved in the investigation himself. Soon after, The Assistant Commissioner meets with his superior, Sir Ethelred, the The Assistant Commissioner makes feel sure for Sir Ethelred that he needs to do the exploration by himself and expresses his intention to solve the case of the Greenwich bombing on his own. Sir Ethelred agrees and the Assistant Commissioner can take over. Next, Verloc is talking to his wife at home about the possibility of migrating to continental Europe. Chief Inspector Heat arrives by shortly after in order to speak with Verloc but He doesn’t know that Verloc had left earlier evening.The Chief Inspector tells Verloc’s wife that he found an overcoat at the scene of the bombing which had the Verloc's shop's address written on its label. Verloc's wife recognizes that it was an overcoat of her brother Stevie. Verloc returns home and finds out that Winnie knows that her brother had been killed by Verloc’s bomb. Verloc confesses what truly happened about his actions to Mrs.Verloc. A shocked Mrs.Verloc gradually goes insane, eventually assaulting her husband with a knife, thrusting him to death. Finally , After killing husband , Mrs.Verloc leave her home and encounters Comrade Ossipon who she begs for assistance in helping her runs away from England. Ossipon assists her and confesses his romantics feeling for her. To planning escape with her. During the time that, they get ready to flee to continental Europe, Ossipon becomes concerned by Winnie's emotional instability and confession to having murdered her husband. Ossipon quickly abandons her.Sometime later, Ossipon reads a newspaper article describing how Winnie drowned herself in the English Channel and left behind only her wedding ring.
