In a shocking turn of events, it appears the North Korean government has acquiesced to demands from radical Islamist terrorist group, ISIS. As we reported here on National Report last week, Kim Jong-Un was believed by some to have been kidnapped by the upstart terrorist group. As weeks had passed with Kim still missing, it was assumed at the time that the North Korean government was unwilling to meet the demands of the terrorist faction holding their leader. It appears that cooler heads in the DPRK prevailed and an arrangement was agreed upon to return Kim to Pyongyang within the past 48 hours.
North Korean state media published new photos of Kim that showed the leader smiling but walking with the aid of a cane. Intelligence sources seem convinced that Kim either had his leg broken or suffered moderate ligament damage at the hands of ISIS. Either injury would explain his need of a cane. “With someone as high profile as Kim Jong-Un, they’re going to do their worst where it won’t be visible first. It seems likely that Kim’s limbs were tortured in a late attempt to get the North Korean government to give in to their demands,” said a source with the United States intelligence community who asked to remain anonymous.
“The most troubling question is exactly what did North Korea give to ISIS in return for their leader?” asked the same U.S. intelligence source. “Obviously the most disturbing possibility is that North Korea gave up some of their nuclear arsenal in exchange for Kim. More likely but equally troubling is that the DPRK paid a large cash ransom to ISIS that can in turn be used to further wage war on America and our interests abroad.”
The White House, which is currently dealing with the Ebola crisis in America, has yet to issue a statement regarding the North Korean leader resurfacing. Nor has the President or Vice President commented on any of the possible problems a potentially nuclear powered ISIS could present to the world.
It appears that things in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea are slowly returning to normal. Political experts had feared Kim’s disappearance was the sign of a leadership coup, however, that does not appear to be the case now. It is unknown if the recent attempts at high level talks with South Korea were done with Kim Jong-Un’s blessing and if the talks are still set to continue.
