I loved the boats back then and still do. I think it's amazing that the journey down the river passes so many historical and beautiful sights, cuts out hours of sitting in traffic jams and only costs a few baht. Hong Kong has a similar experience the Star Ferry which crosses from the mainland to Hong Kong Island and back. The service has been running since 1888 and is still the best way to cross the busy harbour and gaze at the iconic Hong Kong skyline. Like the Chao Phraya boats it's cheap and ticket prices can be as low as 9 baht a crossing
