Composite materials based on thermoset matrices and carbon
fibers are widely used in aerospace applications because of their
high specific stiffness and strength properties as well as excellent
thermal and chemical resistance. However, highly cross-linked
networks have limited fracture toughness and impact resistance
when compared to metallic structures. Moreover, the low thermal
and electrical conductivities of CFRC can also constitute major
drawbacks. In order to counteract these deficiencies, literature suggests
the incorporation of various additives for enhancing the performances
of these composites.
