Vermiculated Angelfish is a medium-size angelfish of approximately 4-5 inch in length. The angelfish at this size are very popular among marine aquarium hobbyists due to their size that is appropriate for home aquarium and could be kept in reef tank. Vermiculated Angelfish are widely found throughout the Southeast Asian Sea. They are also called Singapore Angelfish due to their fine-curvy strip that look like vermicelli bundle. The unknown-age fish, 3.5 inch in length, were brought from Chatuchak market in 2014 and raised in brood stock common maturation tank together with other reef inhibiting fish e.g. Blue tank, Brown tank, Dart fish and Moorish Idol. SCFRDB’s three basic rules for management of fish brood stock were strictly applied: 1) maintaining the best water quality; 2) providing high nutritive value feed; and 3) keeping the tank environment to be similar to their original habitat.
After 3 months conditioning period in the common maturation tank, some fish started to spawn. Like most of other reef dwelling fishes stocked in the tank, the spawning pattern of Vermiculated Angelfish isn’t synchronized with lunar cycle. After spawning, all the fertilized eggs were collected altogether in the same day, and were hatched in the same fiberglass tank. This group of fish fry has very small mouth, thus cannibalism could not occur. After hatching, the nursing tank was nourished with natural phytoplankton and natural zooplankton to enable the fry to pass their first feeding stage. Right after that, they were fed with enriched rotifer, followed by newly hatched artemia when the fish mouths are big enough to gulp their preys. Vermiculated Angelfish fly could be distinguished from other species in the fourth week of common nursing. They developed black pigment on their bodies within 25 days and gradually developed their body strip. All of the fry were fully developed into adult-like form in 60 days. At juvenile stage, unlike some other angelfish species, Vermiculated Angelfish do not have any special feature that is different from its adult.
