We have been engaged in building smoke control concepts (effectively regulated by the National Fire Protection Association) since 2011. We have had very limited success in making very small changes; though we have raised the level of debate among fire protection professionals about our struggle to reconcile the competing requirements of safety and economy. At the top of our agenda regarding smoke control systems is the application of duct smoke detectors required in NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code); not explicitly addressed in NFPA 92 (Standard for Smoke Control Systems) but most of the concepts between the two documents are related.
