Yakson, a traditional Korean touch therapy, is an alternative touch method
for medically fragile preterm infants (Im, 2005). The Yakson protocol for preterm
infants includes the key aspects of traditional Yakson which are appropriate for
preterm infants, such as warm hands, gentle touching without pressure and slow
hand movement. In Yakson, one hand is placed underneath the infant’s back and
the other hand is placed on the infant’s abdomen and the abdomen is caressed.
It was reported that Yakson stimulates growth, as evidenced by an increase in
preterm infants’ total daily milk intake (Im, 2005).
