We studied discrimination among tire rubbers based on their
sulfur chemical states. In the sulfur XANES, the shapes and height
of the peaks were found to differ among the tires. When comparing
the ratios of the peak heights among tires, the mean values 3 SD
of the ratios were distinguished between some sets of tires. Therefore,
tire rubbers could be discriminated based on sulfur XANES.
Additionally, even tires of the same brand could be separated. As a
result ofthe t-test, 43 of 55 combinations were found to be different at
a significance level of 5%.
