2.1. Plant material
A rhizome of Zingiber montanum from Nakron Pathom Province
was cut into segments of 20–30 g with 2–3 buds per segment, and
these were planted into mixed soil media (17.76% organic matter,
0.158% total nitrogen, 0.09% total phosphorus and 0.65% total potassium)
in 10-inch pots (6.29 L). The experiment was conducted from
August 2004 toMay2005 in Bangkok, Thailand. Rhizomes were harvested
after 10 months and washed carefully, and the roots were
discarded. The fresh rhizome was sliced and kept in plastic bags at
−20 ◦C until extraction.
