Endothelial cellsarebelievedtoplayanimportantroleinresponsetovirusinfection.Here,weuseda
microarraytechnologytostudythegeneexpressionprofile inhumanumbilicalveinendothelialcellsat
24 hpostinfectionwithH9N2virusesorinactivatedH9N2viralparticles.TheresultsshowedthatH9N2
virus infectioninducedanabundanceofdifferentialexpressedgenes,exhibitingatranscriptional
signature ofviralinfection.Highlevelsofchemokinegeneexpressionsweredetectedfollowing
treatment. Surprisingly,themostsignificantly up-regulatedgenesweremainlyinterferon-stimulated
genes (ISGs),althoughtherewasnochangeininterferongeneexpressionandinterferonproteinlevel.
WealsofoundthatviralparticlesweremorepotentthanvirusesininducingISGsexpression.These
results suggestthatinductionofexpressionofISGsismainlydependentontheinteractionbetweenviral
particles andendothelialcells.Ourdataofferfurtherinsightintotheinteractionbetweenendothelial
cells andH9N2influenza viruses.
