The Initial Plant Loss Function represents the damage incurred on any given date if the crop did not have to be replanted due to flooding, and if planting was not delayed due to previous flooding. The Last Plant Loss Function represents the damage incurred, given the crop would not reach its full-yield potential because of late planting or re-planting. The functions depict a continuous relationship of day-of-year versus the percentage of the mature crop value that is lost, as illustrated by Figure 4.12.
