The results showed that Cr(III) adsorption was more than that of Cr(VI) in all 12 Australian soils and Cr(III)
adsorption was greatly influenced by pH, CEC, OM and Clay content. However there was no significant
effect of soil properties on the adsorption of Cr(VI). The retardation factor was less for Cr(VI) than for
Cr(III) indicating greater mobility and bioavailability of Cr(VI) species in soils.
