Figure 14 shows the reactive capability of
typical synchronous motors. These curves plot the
percent kVAR vs. percent load. To use the curve,
determine the kVAR based on the percent load
and rated power factor of the motor. The reactive
kVAR is then the rated horsepower multiplied by
the percent kVAR determined. For example, a 250
horsepower, 0.8 power factor motor operating at
100% load gives a 0.6 factor. The kVAR is then 250
X 0.6 = 150 kVAR supplied to the system.
