That the possibility exists was demonstrated in an analysis of disabling injuries to childcare workers in Minnesota, which found that 72% of injuries to childcare workers were attributed to overexertion, and that lifting children caused 48% of back injuries.Preschool workers perform a wide variety of tasks which combine basic child care and teaching duties. These activities range from serving snacks and meals, to changing clothes and diapers, to leading group lessons or play sessions, to recording information about each child and discussing the child's needs with the parents. Although these tasks can require constant standing, walking, bending, stooping and lifting, these activities are generally considered "light effort' from a metabolic standpoint, and children are not perceived to present handling difficulties because they are regarded as 'lightweight'.
