The PESTLE process
Before starting a PESTLE analysis it is important to think through the process
that is going to be followed. Steps include:
f Decide how the information is to be collected and by whom (a team approach
is much more powerful than one person’s view).
f Identify appropriate sources of information.
f Gather the information - it is useful to use a template as the basis for
exploring the factors and recording the information.
f Analyse the findings.
f Identify the most important issues.
f Identify strategic options.
f Write a discussion document.
f Disseminate and discuss the findings.
f Decide which trends should be monitored on an ongoing basis and what
actions need to be taken
