The ring gear (1) is connected to the turbine and meshed with the planetary gears. This results in engine torque from turbine being transferred through the ring gear to the planetary gears, planetary carrier, and output shaft. In addition, resistance encountered by the output shaft is felt along the planetary carrier and planetary gears at the ring gear, which will cause the turbine to slip. Most of the torque divider output is produced at the ring gear because of ring gear’s greater radius and number of gear teeth in comparison with the smaller sun gear.
