Blue Lagoon is a natural geothermal spa located less than an hour from the capital Reykjavik. The water originates from 2 kilometers below the earth’s surface and is from 36 to 39 degrees Celsius in temperature. Guests can enjoy bathing in the natural pool or lagoon year-round, sitting in warm water while marveling at the beautiful landscape around them. The milky blue water contains natural mineral salts, blue green algae and white silica mud, all of which have therapeutic properties. The house specialty is the Blue Lagoon In-Water Massage lasting from 10 to 50 minutes. The silica mud is the basis of a healing skin treatment that is ideal for people with certain chronic skin ailments. The therapeutic mud is located in special boxes by the lagoon that guests can use themselves. There is also an out-patient clinic less than a kilometer from the spa where guests can get treatment under a doctor’s supervision. Between bathing sessions in the lagoon, you can take a cozy steam bath in a lava cave.
