Certainly, sailors like Odysseus must be familiar with the wind currents that they sail through. And certainly we GISers will sometimes be called upon to show these currents on maps for those sailors, but more frequently than not, we will be displaying wind on our maps for other sound reasons such as displaying an analysis of wind currents versus offshore drift or the connection between wind velocity and the tempering effects of eelgrass. Whatever the purpose for showing wind on our maps, much of the same cartographic techniques discussed in the Currents section are also applicable for wind data
