households. Homeownership rates lag in
low-income households. According to the
US Bureau of the Census, at the end of 1994
64.2 percent of households were homeowners.
Those with above median income had
a 78.8 percent rate of homeownership. The
rate for those below the median income
was 48.6 percent. At the end of 2012 the
homeownership rate was 65.4 percent, with
80.4 percent for those above the median
and 50.3 percent below it
