Recommended Assessment Process
1. Show students the Grading Assessment PPT slide (the coordinator will install this on all PCs next week) in Thai which explains the process to the students. We should show this at the beginning of every assessed session.
2. At the end of the pair-work practice section of the conversation session, call out one pair of students to the front of the class. Tell the students they will practice today’s conversation and be assessed on how well they do. Tell them they can read with their books open but if they do so they cannot score more than 3 out of 4 for each criterion.
3. Write the student names and numbers on the assessment sheet (these sheets are in the Teacher's room) for this lesson for this class.
4. Check off the student names on the class list so you know who has and has not been assessed.
5. Mark the students’ scores on the assessment sheet when they finish the conversation.
6. Students who make an effort score a minimum of 3 for each criterion.
7. Students who are not trying can be scored at 2 points for a maximum of two criteria allowing them to just maintain a passing grade.
8. Call up the next pair of students.
9. You should try to complete at least five pairs per assessed session, so you can assess all students in the class during the five conversation sessions.
10. Transfer today’s scores to the class list sheet.
Some of the SINE teachers have found it easier to test all the students in a single session. If this can be done without losing control of the class, it is fine. We just need to have a dated written record of student speaking scores.
