In 2013 Rio Salado College, located in Phoenix, partnered with Knewton and Pearson Education to replace the college’s developmental English courses with an adaptive learning pilot program based on Pearson’s MyWritingLab. Together they developed two online adapted learning developmental English classes (Waters, 2014). Also in 2013, the college began experimenting with adapted learning in its Rio Salado College Bridge Pathways program, which helps students strengthen their academic skills in math, social studies, science, etc. They used Pearson’s My Foundations Lab with Knewton’s adapted learning engine. Currently they are completing the pilot projects, and the college will compare the adapted learning approach with the traditional approach. The content for the adapted learning and traditional approach were roughly similar (“Rio Salado College Partners,” n.d.).
