In addition to Boomerangs, there are two types of leavers who have
not been rehired: those who would consider returning to their former employer and those who would not. We refer to those who have no desire
to return aspermanent Alumni(Alumni) to indicate that their decision to
quit permanently prohibits any consideration of return. In contrast, those
who would consider returning could become Boomerangs in the future or
they may remain Alumni; thus, we refer to this subgroup as undecided
former employees(Undecideds). Because we aim to distinguish between
the experiences of temporary versus permanent leavers and because Undecidedscannot yet be characterized as one or the other, we focus here on
a comparison of Boomerangs and Alumni.
