It is well established that all cells are electrically ac- tive, not just those in excitable tissue. The cell membrane has a membrane potential that averages 70 mV, and this electrical cell membrane activity is critical to normal cell functions. The level of electrical activity of the cell membrane influences the cell’s general activity. If the membrane is electrically quiescent, the cell downregulates and its functional capacity diminishes.
