Fancy that! A wild boar has robbed a chipmunk! Shame on that huge, ugly beast, ravishing the poor little chipmunk's stores. The boar smelt the storeroom through the ground, ripped up the turf with his tusks, dug open the hole with his snout, and devoured everything. There was, chomping and snorting like the pig he is. He cleaned up everything - cedar nuts, choice acorns, sunflower seeds, wheat grains, everything. He might have left something, if only a little.
The poor chipmunk had been storing up the food all autumn, finding the grains, selecting the best, carrying them home, sorting them and laying them down in order. He kept only the best, the ripest, and made sure that nothing would sprout, get damp and turn rancid. He slept through the winter and did not touch his stores, keeping them for early spring which is the hungriest time for the forest dwellers. And here he has been robbed of everything!
After gorging himself the boar plodded homeward, snorting with satisfaction. And the poor little chipmunk sat in the branches, forlornly whistling a sad little song.
