SWEETCORN
The vegetable we call sweetcorn is the seed head, or ear, of a type of maize, which is a grass now grown all over the world from the tropics to any northern region with a sufficient growing season. Other products from maize include cornflour, cornmeal and polenta, and popcorn. In the sweetcorn ear, the tender grains, or kernels, are set in rows along the central cob (“corn on the cob”); the ear I wrapped in long, silky threads inside a papery husk. Sweetcorn may be classified according to sugar levels: “supersweets” have four- to-ten times more sugar than “standard” or “normal Sugary”
