This is one of the main drivers of 5G systems. In fact, it facilitates resource
sharing among many operators. As there is a need to decouple
hardware from software and move network functions towards
software, also assuming separation between control and data.
Thus, network function virtualization research is being conducted
by multiple industrial partners. This would improve
network adaptability and make it easily scalable. With simpler
operation, new network features are likely to be deployed
more quickly. In fact, it permits to share common resources
through abstraction of physical resources to a number of
virtual resources. The main advantages of WNV include: high
resource utilization, improved system performance, reduced
CAPEX and OPEX, better quality-of-experience (QoE) for
the end users, and easier migration to newer technologies by
isolating part of the network [49].
