Second, as an Asian republic, Singapore has a large
multicultural community. Significantly, this cultural diversity
that creates language differences was a major inhibitor to
communication, especially between the older generation of
non-English-speaking Singaporeans and the foreign-trained nurses.
To assist these nurses in their work in Singapore,
organisations should provide an orientation that includes cultural induction and language classes. These will equip nurses with the necessary information and skills, thus facilitating effective communication between nurses and patients from different backgrounds.
