The number of the members who had never utilized the
system was 37. Of these, the members who continued to
utilize the system or stopped utilizing the system were
requested to answer satisfaction with the system on a 5-point
scale (5 means the highest satisfaction). Table II shows the
results. In the case of the members who continued to utilize
the system, each satisfaction level with the three functions
was four or more. In the case of the members who stopped
utilizing the system, each satisfaction level with the three
functions of the system was three or more. Furthermore, the
members who stopped utilizing the system were requested to
answer the reasons why they stopped utilizing the system.
The top two reasons were as follows. The first reason was
that they got tired of using the system. The second reason
was that they were not able to access the system.
V. DISCUSSIONS
In the present study, we developed a web-based training
management system by utilizing the information technology
in order to achieve effective training for more citizen runners
belonging to community sports clubs.
To confinn the effectiveness of the developed system, we
applied the system to the members of a community sports
club, compared the number of the members using a
traditional paper-based training diary with the number of the
members using the web-based training diary, and conducted
a questionnaire survey focusing on satisfaction with the
system among the club members.
As shown in Fig. 5, the number of the members using the
web-based training diary was more than double compared
with the number of the members using a paper-based training
diary not only by weekly comparison but also throughout the
activity period of the sports club. The number of the
members using the system decreased over time. In particular,
the decreasing trend was confirmed after event B (marathon
competition I) and event C (marathon competition II). We
assumed that the members setting the marathon competitions
as their biggest goals finished using the system after the
competitions. Although the frequency of the personal
coaching by using a paper-based training diary in the sports
club was up to once per two weeks, the frequency of the
personal coaching by using the web-based training diary was
up to once per week
As shown in Table II, the results of the questionnaire
survey proved a high level of satisfaction with the three
functions of the system in the case of the members who
continued to utilize the system. Among the functions, the
personal coaching function showed the highest level of
satisfaction. This tendency was also confirmed in the case of
the members who stopped utilizing the system. This
tendency could be due to the strong interest in personal
coaching.
In conclusion, we confinned that the developed webbased
training management system has enough ability to
assist more citizen runners to establish the PDSC for their
training.
VI. CONCLUSION
In the present study, we developed a web-based training
management system in order to help developing the
establishment and the promotion of PDSC for the training of
citizen runners. The developed system has a training diary
function, a personal coaching function, and a message board
function. For the system evaluation, this system was applied
to the members of a community sports club which promotes
marathon training among citizens for three months. As a
result, the number of the members using the web-based
training diary was more than double compared with the
number of the members using the paper-based training diary.
Moreover, the members using the system got personal
coaching every week. Therefore we confinned the
effectiveness of the system. The developed training
management system would diminish the limitation on
instruction time, frequency of instruction in community
sports clubs and assist more citizen runners to establish the
PDSC for their training.

We would like to express our appreciations to Toshitsugu
Yoshioka, Kazuteru Nakamura, Kentaro Miyamoto, and
Yuta Fujimoto who were the instructors of the community
sports club. They coached the citizen runners for marathon
training by using our training management system in this
study.
